Ayurveda Experience Report for a Solo Traveler: 7 Days of Bliss in Kerala

Hi, I recently visited Kerala for my solo trip. Due to daily busy schedules, life was becoming monotonous. Stress and anxiety were a part of my daily routine. I planned a trip to get rid of it, and what better place than God’s Own Country, Kerala? It is the home to the ancient system of natural healing, ayurveda. I surely accomplished natural healing and overall wellness at India’s topmost Ayurvedic wellness center, “Tharavad Ayurveda Retreat.”

In those seven magical days, I felt the bliss of ayurveda. The place, therapies, people, and food were once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Here is a detailed blog on my experience; it can be your best guide for planning an Ayurvedic retreat in Kerala.

7 Days of Bliss in Kerala

Day 1: Arrival and Warm Welcome in Kerala

My trip started when I landed at the Cochin International Airport. The exquisite greenery outside mesmerised me as I was searching for my cab. Soon, I realised what I should expect from this trip: peace of mind. It was a 1-hour, comfortable drive from the airport to Tharavad Ayurveda Retreat. The designated individual at the retreat welcomed me perfectly with a tour of the entire centre.

The place was entirely Kerala in itself with perfect greenery and backwater. Then on the second of the day, my first appointment was booked with a Dr. Binu Paul. The doctor was extremely calm and heard all my queries. Later on he assessed my entire body type and health history with all the doshas. This assessment helped him to create a personalised program for me. I really felt confident after my first consultation with Dr. Binu.

Day 2: Detox Begins with Abhyanga and Snehapanam

Day two started with peak relaxation in the early morning,  as experts there performed Abhyanga. It is the traditional oil massage that majorly utilizes warm oils and gentle strokes to help one attain relaxation. This process helps in regaining energy and improving blood circulation.

After regaining energy, now it was the time to improve flexibility and breathing. I performed yoga, under the expert guidance. The session surely helped me attain clarity and refreshment. A personalized dosha-specific lunch was cherry on the cake

Later on, they took me for internal cleansing. Snehapanam, a medicated ghee therapy was the process they used. I will not talk about the taste but the benefits of it are numerous. Entire evening I spent in the relaxed and green surroundings of Ayurveda retreat.

Day 3: Experiencing Pizhichil Therapy

I never thought Ayurveda would have a therapy that can make you feel royal. The name of the therapy was Pizhichil. In that warm, medicated oils were poured on my body and massaged in perfect strokes. I asked the experts, What is this therapy aiming for? They said, It detoxifies your body and restores vitality.

I felt that all my stress was entirely melting away. It surely worked on my tired muscles and deeply nourished my skin, providing me a glow. Therapy is your solution if you are looking for healing and relaxation in one go.

After the therapy, I ended my day journaling in the perfect setting of the Tharavad Ayurveda Retreat.

Day 4: Yoga, Meditation, and Spiritual Awakening

We all know how peaceful sunrise can be in the lush green settings of kerala. But believe me after the sunrise yoga session the beauty of it doubles. The peaceful settings, perfect guidance makes it an unforgettable experience. It helped me in the posture correction, increasing my flexibility and strength.

After the flexibility, posture corrections, it was necessary to to work on mental clarity. The experts lead us to a meditation session and I can’t express how beautiful and calming it was. I felt mindfulness and centered throughout the day.

Later they gave us the education on the medicinal benefits of certain herbs. It enriched every one of us there and inspired us to include those herbs in our daily lifestyle.

Day 5: Kizhi Therapy and Ayurvedic Diet

Working on a laptop leads to ugly posture and back pain for every corporate employee. Assessing that, Dr. Binu and Dr. Priyanka suggested that I take Kizhi therapy. It is a unique treatment where warm herbal poultices are pressed against my body to relieve muscle tension.

After the intense session, the doctors suggested we have light meals. This Ayurvedic diet cleared my digestion issues and energy levels.

I spent the evening reading and reflecting on the positive changes. I can surely see the few changes that I came searching for.

Day 6: Shirodhara for Mental Clarity

Shirodhara is the one therapy that I would recommend to every person. On day 6, experts poured warm medicated oil on the forehead. The therapy does wonders for anxiety and mental clarity.

This therapy helped me cure my anxious mind, disturbed sleep, and tense mind. Adding to this relaxation, I practiced yoga nidra to gain deeper clarity and rejuvenation. The combination of Shirodhara and yoga nidra can help every city person to try and attain lost mental peace.

With this deep relaxation and clarity, I journaled on the transformative powers of Ayurveda. By day 6, I can realise each therapy is bringing me closer to my inner self.

Day 7: Farewell and Reflection

On the final day, I was high on emotions as in these 7 days I prepared to leave. I connected with lots of people: the experts, patients of chronic diseases like Parkinson’s, and other travellers. The experience here surely made me humble as a person, giving me more clarity.

On the final day, I had an exclusive session with Dr. Binu, where I saw amazing results. According to the results, all the doshas we saw on day 1 were greatly minimised. At last, he just told me, ‘You didn’t just take the therapy; you learnt the lifestyle.’

While leaving, I reflected on every process and experience. My heart was filled with a deep sense of gratitude for Tharavad Ayurveda Retreat and the people here.
